Japanese Tea Garden

As a San Francisco wedding photographer, I know intimately that San Francisco, CA is a great place to take your engagement session, pre-wedding photos. Also known as e-pics or engagement photos, this session enables you to work with your chosen photographer before the big wedding day.

The Tea Garden in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park is one of my favorite places to take engagement photos. I took many of my clients there in 2010. I like it because the lighting is always good. I like using the sun to my advantage, however if it is too sunny I can always find shade here at the Tea Garden. Often, it is overcast in this part of San Francisco which I also like for an engagement session. I take portraits with and without fill light to enhance facial features.

I like the bridge at the tea garden. It’s usually one of the first spots.

Here’s a portrait I took of the lovely couple. Notice the ‘eye light’ [the two white dots in the middle of the subjects eyes]. This can only be achieved if you use a little ‘flash fill’. If you don’t use a flash, then the eyes will only be black. I usually do it both ways [with and without flash fill] unless I am in a big hurry. You have to run 100% manual mode to acheive this look. P or auto mode won’t get you this look.

I keep them on the bridge as I run over to the side to get the shots below.

Another portrait using flash fill in order to get the ‘eye-light’. There is a slight soft filter applied to the shot below.There is no soft filter applied to the shot below. Can you tell the difference between the above and below shot?I do alot of this ‘background out of focus’ stuff.
